Reindeers and Hobbits

Decided to tackle the Christmas shopping head on in town. And failed.

Saw some Reindeer though.

Made it to see The Hobbit tonight. It was good, a bit too long, but no Lord of the Rings.
The music, characters, sets, all made me nostalgic for the original trilogy. But also reminded me that I wasn't watching them and what I was watching just wasn't quite as good. Just doesn't the same emotional pull, or the same spark as Mrs B said. When Boromir or Gandalf die in the first LOTR it really resonates, but here the characters felt a little flat.
That is probably because the story is more frivolous and there are 13 dwarves some of whom don't even get a line. Not sure if you could make it much better.
Having said all that it's still enjoyable return to Middle-Earth, and the Gollum scene is amazing.
