Wooden Boats
Hobart has a wooden boat festival every two years. Today we visited a not for profit organisation that is keeping the traditional methods of timber alive and we did a tour of their workshop. The best timber used is Huon Pine which takes thousands of years to mature. They have about 100 years worth of timber (of decent size) left and it is under tight control so they use it for projects with the best outcomes.
After lunch in a cafe cum museum we drove down to Dover, a town almost at the bottom of the island through some forests which were the scene of terrible bushfires in January this year. Heading north west tomorrow through different country.
