Training Preschool Caregivers

20/02/19

For the last two years, or so, we are the  trainers of caregivers appointed by the Social Welfare Ministry. The groups planning to set up a preschool must go to the Ministry for approval and once registered they come to Margaret who makes the arrangements.
Sometimes our team will travel to separate villages or in this case a group of villages come to our Centre for Learning.

I haven't looked at the number of schools we support buy it is well over 100.

As well as training we assist then to construct their little buildings, mainly with roofing materials. They can manage the rest and all the labour of course.

The great incentive for all is that almost all the little ones transfer seamlessly to Primary school when they are 6.

Margaret has sent me this report

Where it took place: At Wells for Zoe Centre for Learning
People present: 30 caregivers from 15 schools
Activities done
➢ Teaching  the caregivers how they can handle kids
➢ Teaching the caregivers on how they can use the timetable
➢ Teaching the caregiver about different areas in the timetable and how they can use it to teach the kids.
➢ Teaching the caregiver that they should have a pail in the schools which kids can use to wash hands after visiting the toilet and when its lunch time.
➢ Teaching the caregivers that they should not only depend on materials from the shop but they can use local playing materials as well. For instance, bottle tops, small cartons or even some bottles.
➢ Teaching the caregivers that they should also be teaching the kids some stories, poems and songs. In addition to that playing games outside.
What we brought:
➢ Local playing materials like bottle tops, small cartons and bottles, stones for counting, leaves and plants for names and colours, seeds, sticks for drawing and writing on the ground. In fact all materials that people in rural areas already have
➢ Cold drinks and yellow buns, for a little party with some books, chalk and pens.
