Maybe not the picture of the day but certainly the story of the day.

This 200 year old pier was seriously badly damaged by unusual weather - the sea wall is almost completely destroyed, the pier is ripped up and lampposts have disappeared.

Yesterday there was a strong wind - but not a gale - and a massive swell appeared from nowhere and set about the pier. Seems that there had been a large storm further out to sea that took a trip landward. I was on the east coast yesterday and it was a fine day. Better check that Mayan calendar . . .
