If we hadn't got Steve in we'd never have known what was hiding in the oak tree all that time.  

By the way; never, ever, nail anything into a tree.  (1) it makes tree carvers very unhappy and pause for a while to sharpen the chain again. (2) it makes a hideous stain inside the wood over a remarkably large area.
