Coober Pedy

The most amazing town in the middle of nowhere. 70% of the population live underground in ‘dugouts’ carved from the rock. This beautiful underground Serbian Orthodox Church was stunning and very peaceful.

The town is the center of the opal mining industry and the harsh climate and way of life are reflected in the residents - most of whom are a little on the crazy side.

Used as a film location for movies such as Mad Max and Priscilla Queen of the Desert, it really is a barren landscape.
