A resident kolea, Kapiolani Park
Waikiki was so pretty today - and a low, low tide to boot (-0.3) just prior to me arriving. Went out onto one of the stone jetties and looked backwards for a picture perfect shot of Diamond Head. Took multiple shots of fishes (easier to see in the low water: humuhumu, lovely silvery/blue needle fish, wrasses, tangs, other triggerfish), liking the distortion in colours and shape underwater. Lots of pigeons of various colours waiting for a handout, with one pure white one. Stunning water colours of milky turquoise and green to deep blue, and exposed rocks and reef in places I didn't know them to be. But going back to the car, spotted this little kolea. Only a month from now, near the end of April, they will head back to Alaska to mate and raise chicks. This one is well into its breeding plumage.
I should go back soon to see what else I can find . . . .
