Modern living
I'm trying to stick to getting out of the office for at least some daylight. I always turn the same way out of the building so decided on a change, stumbling upon Salford Model Lodging. Back in the Victorian era, working men and women could often be found living in squalor at the mercy of private landlords. Benevolent organisations created buildings like this, which gave them their own "sleeping compartment" and key, with facilities described by some as being like a gentleman's club. Now a modern apartment block, with an added glass atrium, you can still sense the optimism that must have gone into this, little realising the problems it addressed in the 1870s would still be with us in 2019.
