Lord Revelstoke, a Pirate, and a Lovely Ship Name

Today was very enjoyable. We did a ten mile circular walk from Stoke Point in the Devon South Hams, along the coast path, and Yealm estuary, visiting the Church of St Peter the Poor Fisherman at Revelstoke, now preserved by the Churches Conservation Trust. There is a tablet inside which reads...

Sacred to the memory of Miriam, the beloved wife of Captain William Kingcombe, who departed this life after a short illness on board the ship Sorabjee Jamsetsee Jeejeebhoy at the entrance to the river Hooghly January 1st 1867, aged 27 years

The Hooghly river is an approximately 260 kilometres long distributary of the Ganges River in West Bengal, India

On the nave floor there is a stone to John Sprey, dated 1697, and decorated with a skull and crossbones.

The walk passed through Membland, which has associations with the magnificently named Lord Revelstoke, and the riverside villages of Noss Mayo and Newton Ferrers.

The weather was good, just one shower followed by this rainbow.
Bracing wind off the sea made me very sleepy later.
