Mahonia

Mid to late March is when we usually spot Orchard Mason bees (Osmia lignaria), early pollinators that they are, on the big Oregon grape (Mahonia) in front of the living room window. I stood there quite awhile checking out the new blooms, but didn't see any of the bees. It was mid-afternoon, so maybe they'd had their fill of pollen already.
