Neidpath Castle

This morning we walked along to the disused railway bridge over the Tweed (described on a new plaque as ”one of the finest skew arch constructions in Scotland”) and then back along the river past Neidpath Castle. A huge piece of the outer wall has fallen off the castle at some point in the dim and distant past and is now lying near the river - we wondered whether it had been caused by the weather or if a cannon or explosion had done it. You can see where it fell away on the right hand side of the picture. When I was tidying the front garden yesterday I realised the bluebells were rampaging through all the other plants and were going to take over unless I did something about them - I mentioned this to thechimp, who immediately took up his spade and dug them all out. It just needs tidying up now
