Mace details
I was making a chicken soup today and used both laurel and mace as spice for the soup. Mace is the dried lacy sheath which covers a nutmeg kernel. It has a very distinctive taste, which is different from the taste of nutmeg and is great for soups and stews. Nutmeg originally only grew in the Moluccas, the Spice Islands , part of Indonesia and became one of the spices coveted in Europe because it helped preserve and spice food during the winter months.
