Calder and Picasso
Today we visited a superb exhibition on Picasso and Alexander Calder (1898-1976) at the Picasso Museum in Paris. It is wonderfully mounted in over a dozen galleries on two floors. The works are well spaced, with ones from each artist from similar dates usually juxtaposed. The museum is in the Hotel Salé, an important 17th century private hotel; this image shows the main staircase (escalier d'honneur) in the central amphitheater. Three works by Calder are visible: two mobiles hung from the ceiling, and in the background an oil painting, "Seven Black Red and Blue." Two winters ago the museum held an analogous joint exhibition on Picasso and Giacometti--my blip included a small portion of this view.
