Descartes A Kant

Myself and Sandra went to Guadalajara for the weekend. A break for her birthday, a chance to check out the Indioemergente music festival and to just enjoy a new city, that I'd not yet visited.

Got in before 6 pm and then headed off in a cab once we'd freshened up. We had intended to go for a meal beforehand to a place that had been recommended to us. And then on to the gig. However, things went badly wrong for the next couple of hours as we drove around the city trying to find the restaurant, which when we eventually did was closed. Oi Vey!

We then stayed in the cab and wandered aimlessly round for another age, before finally coming on the festival, which was taking place in a big field and nowhere near any of the locations given for it on the web! And needless to say, the cab fare was enormous - $450 pesos (about £20), which down here is an astronomical amount to pay for a cab! To say I was not best pleased would be a slight understatement.

Just as well, we were able to blag our way in as press, which just about appeased my boilin' heid. We got in when there was literally 30 people in attendance (space for about 5,000). Being shouted at, "to wave their hands in the motherf**kin' air", by an enthusiastic crowd called Union Street, immediately brought a smile back to my face.

By the end of the night and after 3 more bands (Descartes A Kant; Portugal, The Man and The Shins. Even though Descartes A Kant were by far the most photogenic, they were also the weakest. Portugal, The Man (awful, awful name) were very good, especially on a 1st listen. The Shins were very good too, makes me want to investigate them more.

At least, the taxi home (no chance of a bus!) was only $250. Though be warned, if you ever come to Guadalajara cabs are horrendously expensive compared to anywhere else in Mexico. And that's straight from several cabbies mouths.
