St Andrews or Saint Andrew's?

First of all I must thank you all for your all your very kind and generous comments on  my 3000th blip yesterday.

Today we are in St Andrews with a trip to the Dundee V&A planned for tomorrow. The photograph is of the ruins of St Andrews cathedral. As I get older I find myself becoming more and more of a pedant and started to worry about why there in no apostrophe in the town's  name. Luckily the University of St Andrews website has the answer. Apparently it is because the name of the town predates the use of the apostrophe, which dates from the 16th century. So, now I know!
