Seven Yellow Stripes

I have been wondering why some currant clearwing moths have three stripes, while others have four. It's a gender thing. The one I blipped Saturday was probably a female. (Synanthedon tipuliformis).

To further reduce the sleep I'm getting a nest full of starling chicks has hatched not three metres from my bed. We all wake up at 4.40 am!


This evening after sunset I was attracted to a light in the northern sky. I went to look and found a dark rainbow, with the area below it a bright orangey pink. It was rather surreal.
