Where Nine and One Intersect

The sign says "Welcome to River Street, Downtown Santa Cruz." Which is all well and good, but River Street isn't really in downtown Santa Cruz, and the design was not well received in our sensitive community. When the sign went up over ten years ago it was so highly controversial that the city offered to sell it on EBay, but there were no takers. And now? oh the brazen colors have faded a bit, we've all gotten used to it, and it looks terrific in the rain.
