Lac de la Gruyère

At this time of year, the Lac de la Gruyère (see extra) is partially drained to make way for the melt water that will arrive from the mountains in the area. It is only when the lake is at its lowest that you can make your way out to the Île d’Ogoz (main photo) on foot. We made it into a longer walk by starting 6km out and walking along shore, admiring the beautiful blue/green colours of the lake at the same time. The lake/reservoir was ‘created’ in 1948 and before that time the buildings you can see on the island were surrounded by farmland. There is a chapel on the far side of the island. In the extra you can see the pontoons on the stones waiting for the water to rise up again.

Was great to combine a lovely walk with catching up with a friend.
