Bowing Out...
It’s been a tough old week. And today was particularly difficult.
We had our final event at work and it was all very emotional. We were determined to celebrate all that Liverpool Mental Health Consortium has achieved over the last 24 years, so we had entertaining presentations, impassioned speeches from people who’ve been central to our work over the years, poetry, prose, singing, drumming and strumming. And a bite to eat.
And there was laughter, tears and hugs aplenty. It’s hard to write about and I think I may shed a few more tears before the night’s out...
We’ve still got another month in which to tie up all the loose ends and complete all the administrative tasks which closing down entails, but this was our last public hurrah and it was lovely to be surrounded by so many friends and so much love and goodwill. I’m not sure exactly how many people turned up over the course of the day but I think it was around 100.
Thanks very much to Nici for taking this shot of a motley assemblage of former and current employees, Chairs and Committee members. Left to right: Angela, Louise, Clare, Helen, Sue, me, Sarah, Andy.
The day finished with a rousing performance by The Choir With No Name, whose rendition of ‘What About Us’ by Pink had me struggling to maintain my composure. I wish I could link to their performance but you’ll just have to make do with Pink’s original... https://youtube.com/watch?v=ClU3fctbGls
This has been the best job I’ve ever had. I’m really going to miss it, and all the people who made it so special.
