Beauchief Abbey

Located on the south-western edge of Sheffield, the abbey was believed to be founded in 1183. The monastic establishment at Beauchief was dissolved in 1537. In common with many abbeys, the stonework was dismantled to  be used in other buildings. Only the western tower of the Abbey remains, together with some ruins (including a wall) to the immediate south-east. The tower is now attached to a chapel (now a church) built in the 17th century.
