What goes up must come down
Over the past months it has become increasingly clear that Dusty was not born to be an indoor cat. He has an abundant surplus of energy that needs burning off. We have been reluctant to let him out due to the road outside our house, the one where Chloe come a cropper. However, we just can't coop him up forever and he must take his chances or be an very unhappy cat, though kept safe indoors.
These are terrible decisions for an owner to take.
We decided that taking him outside at times of our choosing, when he is hungry and likely to be tempted back by dinner, might be the way to go. Today, with the sun out and the temperature up around 20 degrees, seemed ideal. We made coffee and took it outside, taking Dusty with us.
We attempted to keep his interest and keep him at the rear of the house with us but he had to be retrieved from the road twice.
It was not long before he was up on the roof. He did not wish to come down.
He is in now but wailing to go out again. I wish that I could let him go on request but I am terrified that he will be squished.
