Friday: Pacific Central
My day started with a D-Day Remembrance event at Pacific Central Station. The invitation wasn't clear on what the event was but, given it was D-Day related, I went - as did my French colleague, Phillipe, who was equally in the dark. Anyway, it turned out to be a ceremony called 'Boots of Remembrance' - a pair of boots will be put on a train here and will travel across Canada to Halifax, symbolising the journey young men made as they headed to WW2. There were a number of veterans there, sharing their stories.
This evening, K. and I headed to Darby's, which was closed for a few months for refurbishment. It's still great, with an excellent beer list, but it's not markedly different. They have new tables and chairs, and the bar area has been smartened up but, on the whole, it's pretty similar.
It was a slightly quirky evening - two women sat down and quickly engaged us in conversation. One of them was very nice, the other got a little........difficult - and started speaking in terms with which we weren't comfortable. In the end, we ended up telling up her - I just think she assumed too much familiarity too early on and also misjudged what was appropriate. It did mean it wasn't quite the evening we were hoping for.
