Sicilian Adventure - Day 7!
Noto Cathedral
A beautiful, warm day and a morning train journey to the beautiful town of Noto, passing through the Sicilian countryside and endless orange and lemon groves. Although Noto has existed for many centuries, the town’s baroque buildings date to the early 18th century, when Noto was almost entirely rebuilt in the wake of the devastating 1693 earthquake. We came upon so many beautiful churches and atmospheric side streets, and a cafe serving very tasty arancini for lunch!
Returning to Siracusa mid-afternoon, we meandered our way back through the lanes of Ortigia, did a spot of shopping and returned to our sunset spot for a last evening glass of Prosecco, followed by a last evening Pizza!
Extra no 1 - One of Noto’s many beautiful churches - couldn’t decide between this one and my main photo
Extra no 2 - And one of Noto’s many atmospheric courtyards - another contender for my main photo
Extra no 3, 4, 5 and 6 - Noto’s baroque architecture
Extra no 7 - Returning through the lemon groves of Sicily
Extra no 8 - Vespa/Prosecco time at Fonte Aretusa, Ortigia
Ciao!
(A second backblip posted after my return home. Am slowly catching up with the world of blip...)
