Troller's Ghyll

Several months ago I rediscovered an old schoolfriend, Helen and her husband Tim and since then we have met up a couple of times for walks and lunches.  Today we drove through the Dales to meet them at Parcevall Hall Gardens, a place I have long wished to visit.

The information in the guide book says that originally the 'Parcevall estate was part of the manor of Appletreewick and, among the possessions of Bolton Priory' but it has had a chequered history being variously gifted, sold and willed over the centuries. By the time William Milner appeared in the 1920's it had fallen in to disrepair.  Sir William set about restoring and developing the estate to its present state.

The Hall is now used as a place for retreats but the gardens and grounds are open to the public and quite magical.  We were surprised to discover rhododendrons already in bloom and the many species of daffodils in their prime.  We will definitely return in a few weeks to see all those beck side primulas in bloom, today the highlight for me were the hellebores.

Although I took lots of blips in the gardens, I have decided to go with this one, which is the view from the hilltop behind the house, where there is a seat placed in just the right spot to look out on to Troller's Ghyll below, a place we must walk to on our next visit.
