Irish Bells

It was the Junior School's Carol service today and very lovely it was too. Each class told us how a different country celebrated Christmas.

Sam's class did Ireland and I was most interested to learn about "Women's Little Christmas" day on 6th January, when women have the "day off" to celebrate with friends and go out with other women while the men take over the household duties.

Seemingly the custom goes back to the days when large families were the norm. Men never lifted a finger in the house to help, and were never expected to. But every year, after the Christmas holiday, tired women finally got a break - for one day ......

The class also sang us "Jingle Bells" in Irish accompanied by a talented member of their class on the euphonium!

Well done all!
