The Bakers.
We visited the Archaeological Museum today- well worth visiting if you are going to Pompeii or Herculaneum. A lot of the frescoes and mosaics have been removed from the sites and put on display here.
It also houses a fascinating collection of sculptures- busts, feet, horses, heads... the most exquisite carving I have ever seen.
I particularly liked this fresco. It’s not the most outrageous one by any means, but it is thought that this is the only one that is most likely to be a portrait. It is, however, still a stylised version as the people are a baker and his wife, but have been portrayed as scholars.
Lots of extras: masks, tambourines, some very weird statues, more mosaics from Pompeii and Claudius’ foot.
