More burning..

...or  Muir Burning as it is known in the regulations (the Muirburn Code and some supplementary advice from SNH ) which allow careful burn only until the 15th of April (though there are some exceptions permitted for  a further  fortnight).

I remember a lot of debate about the practice and the dates when I was Environment Minister and whilst it is permitted in order to burn off old heather and allow new growth it is all too easy for such fires to do additional, and very unwelcome, damage.  There are also alternatives.. 

In that regard  one that I saw on the hills in Cowal this afternoon looked as if it could get amongst some trees at one point .

That happened - causing considerable destruction  - above our house  eight years ago.
