Melbourne to Myrtleford

We couldn’t wait to leave Melbourne this morning. It’s a great city if you’re on foot or catching a tram down town, but the suburbs have narrow roads and trams and expressways and we don’t enjoy that at all. There’s no where to park if you do want to stop and the sat nav lies. Honest it does. In Tasmania we found it was out by about 5-10 metres and kept taking us down alleyways and into car parks and rivers where we shouldn’t have been going. In Victoria it seems to be on track but doesn’t realise we are a large Car and caravan combination and wants to take us to places that we can’t go.

Anyway, after half an hour we got onto a tollway and the Hume Highway ( Melbourne to Sydney) with at least two lanes and fully divided road. Heaven. I did some driving to give Bob a rest.

Myrtleford is a small town at the foothills of the Snowy Mountains where we are going to stay a couple of nights before driving home. They have converted some old railway lines into bike tracks ( which we rode a few years ago) so will go exploring tomorrow and enjoy the peaceful and picturesque valley with real autumn colours starting to show in the trees.

We are at the Ardherns caravan park which is lovely and quiet.
