Zona militar
The office space I’m using is in a leafy quieter part of town known as Sommerschield (not a very Portuguese word; instead named after a Norwegian who was involved in some shenanigans in Africa). Incongruously, this area is where the wealthiest Mozambicans and foreigners live, adjacent to a zone of barracks, a big military hospital, and uniformed soldiers strolling around. I’m happy to be here, working a mile away from my apartment, as it provides some structure and in theory prevents work bleeding into free time. I’m intrigued about what’s behind these walls and wonder whether I’ll sneak a peek if I loiter around long enough outside.
