SPUR-WINGED PLOVER (Vanellus miles)
Self introduced in about 1932 in Invercargill (I'm told). Its called the "masked Lapwing" in Australia. I put the insert in to highlight the spur on the wing. Vicious looking thing and well used as this raucus bird attacks on the wing. Often seen fighting with the Australasian Harrier. Could be called the Phantom of the Opera ??
