Gone to seed ?

Asparagus needs to be cultivated carefully to build up vigorous growth.

In the planting year, nothing is cropped. In the first year thereafter , only a single stem can be cut from each plant. And in the second, only two.

The rest are left to go to seed.

That doesn’t mean that the effort of the plant or the grower is wasted. It is actually being invested for longer term success . Patience ultimately has its reward because it produces a long term, sustainable, crop.
