Cirl Bunting
The hedgerows in our lane are full of birdsong in the mornings.
Today, as I walked the dogs, there was one bird call that I wasn't familiar with. I managed to track it down but couldn't identify it immediately.
Of course it flew off when I got a little too close.
Undeterred I returned home with the dogs and collected my camera.
Ignoring Jorgie's noisy protests I walked back to where I had seen it and was thrilled that it had returned and was singing it's heart out on the top of the hedge, in the sun.
Without the dogs I was able to get a bit closer.
I was really surprised to identify it as a Cirl Bunting. They are reported to be in a few areas in Devon but I have never seen one here.
This is the male so I will be on the lookout for his mate over the next few weeks.
