The Snake's Head and Bee

The snake head fritillary in our garden are at that their glorious best just now. I say glorious but must bear in mind the fact that Vita Sackville-West, novelist, poet, exuberant aristocrat and co-creator of the glorious gardens at Sissinghurst Castle in Kent, called them "a sinister little flower, in the mournful colour of decay."

They are pollinated by bees and I almost caught a bumble bee in the act. I am sorry it is a bit blurry, I told it to keep still, but they never listen!

Another good name for a British pub comes to mind; The Snake's Head and Bee.
