Greater Periwinkle

For a couple of years we've been admiring the growth of this plant's glossy foliage on the compost heap at the end of our garden.

We have thought for a while that it was probably a chance seedling of Greater Periwinkle (Vinca major), from a seed brought in (and excreted here) by a bird rummaging through the compost.

Now this year its identity has been confirmed with the appearance of its first ever bloom.
