River Tweed
Another cold morning, but it looks ok outside. I am planning a longer ride than usual as I have the Etape Loch Ness on the 28th April. However, as soon as I hit the main road, so does the wind. It might be alright. Heading from Hillend along the Seafield Moor road to Auchendinny isn't pleasant, but the climb out of Auchendinny is ok. .
As I head east over Mount Lothian, the temperature drops quite considerably. I am cycling a lot slower than anticipated as well due to the strong headwind. I change my route. Instead of heading through Peebles, Innerleithen and the Piper's Grave (see Saturday 12th Blip), I decide to head over the Meldon Hills, and down to Broughton. I turn South head past the Gladhouse Reservoir, and on to the A703. At least the wind is now a side wind higher up, and sheltered from the wind . At Eddleston, I turn on to the road over the Meldons.
At Lyne Station I head west a little then south on the B712 through Stobo. I stop where the road crosses the River Tweed to get my blip. The road passes through Drumelzier, before passing back over the River Tweed to the A701 (Moffat 21, Edinburgh 29)
I have to go home, so I head north on the A701. A side wind again, until Muirburn. The road turns NE, so the wind is sometimes is a headwind. At Mountain Cross, I turn on to the Bogsbank road to West Linton. The temperature has risen, so I take the Moor road over to Penicuik. the centre of town is open again, There's smooth tarmac now. From Penicuik, its back along the Seafield Moor road to Hillend and home.
The whole route can be seen at Relive here.
After lunch my partner and I head down to Morningside, then decide it's ok to go to Stockbridge. The market is on, which is interesting to walk around. my partner gets some gin related mixes. Some charity shops aren't open, which is just as well as we are quite late, and I need a coffee and cake. There's not much that catches my eye.
Then its home via the supermarket. At least I have a four day working week this week.
