Yet More Unexpected Work
Our front perimeter fence consists of white painted steel posts with galvanised steel chain hung between them in a continuously joined length totalling about eighty metres. Last night Mrs GOG returned home at about a quarter to six in the evening and I closed the gates and locked up behind her.
This morning Mrs GOG opened the gates at 0730 hours to get the car out to take me to Addenbrookes, only to find that twenty metres of our chain had been stolen during the night. Bolt croppers had been used to cut the lock securing the chain across our drive and the attachments for the chain at four of the posts had been similarly damaged. Whilst the chain is not a particularly costly item, the aggravation of having to obtain it and have the posts repaired by a welder is quite considerable. I cannot help but wonder if it was really worth the effort of a person or persons to remove a section of chain which could be purchased for under £30.
Mrs GOG took some photographs and telephoned the police, when they called up our records they were able to see that this is the third time that various quantities of this chain, including the whole length and some posts had been stolen over the last four or five years!
My picture today shows the lock which was cut with the bolt croppers and left in the grass.
