A very fine day
Cherry petals toss themselves on sidewalk café tables after rain-wet nights. They scatter themselves promiscuously, as if there were no end of them. All I have to do is look.
Before dawn I took Sue to the bus station and pointed her south in the direction of her siblings. After a time, she will come back. Wonderful.
This afternoon after a buzz cut (hair seems to grow faster when it's this short) I bought Evan for his birthday a Jellycat bunny (softer than possible) the color of these petals. Evan has been becoming himself almost four years now. I revel in the great privilege of watching him unfurl into his true shape. His party this year will be a month early so his father, who is working throughout May, can be there.
Lines from a poem called “Station” by Li-Young Lee:
Your attention please.
Under falling petals, never think about home.
