Mike
Our neighbour Mike's garage roof blew off in the recent winds. Along with his photo voltaic array. The big window imploded during the gale and the roof was just blasted into a field. Mike actually went out in the teeth of the gale to the garage to get coal, he went to put on the light and it didn't work, little realising the light was now about a quarter of a mile up the hill. Such was the ferocity of the wind and being dark he didn't appreciate his out building was now roofless. He has a bit of a problem with his hip so we volunteered to help. We didn't realise the size and weight of the roof timbers! What a job! About fifteen of them had to be manhandled through the fence. Then a clear up of all the other broken timbers. We were fair puggled and hot by the time we had cleared the field of the damaged roof, all the dozens of half inch sheared bolts and friction nails. A day of our hollibobs but definitely worth the effort, called for a self satisfied gin and tonic this evening, and a stroll around Stromness.
Incidentally Mike is 80. He announced he has so much to do he will have to live until he is 110. Know what? I think he'll make it.
