Black and British

It was a busy day at The Beeches. I was in Hexham early for a haircut then home to field all the callers.

David came to service the alarm system at the same time as Ian (from the insurers) came to check whether we have a blockage in the pipe that leaked. Sara came to clean. Another David came to check if the walls have dried out. They have! 

Then Paul, the kitchen designer, came to look at the current shell of a kitchen.

He pronounced the space as quite difficult (!) although it is much bigger than many a kitchen, but thought we could get a job done between £15 and £25 thousand pounds. Plenty of wiggle room there then!


Tonight I went to the first event in the Hexham Book Festival 2019 to hear David Olusoga speak about his book Black and British. I seem to be the only person who has not seen A House through Time, especially since the second series is about a house in Newcastle.

David has a distinguished career as an academic historian as well as a writer.

It was a very interesting evening.

Before he came on, the woman next to me said that she likes his hair. "Do you fancy him?" I asked. "Well", she said, "he is certainly fit". Brilliant!

Julie and I had coffee in Wetherspoons afterwards to chat. Not bad coffee at a very reasonable price.
