It appears that a small bolt serving as an exhaust hanger for the catalytic converter broke or rattled loose....causing the exhausts system beneath the Subaru to hang at an untenable angle and under mechanical stress...causing catastrophe to the gasket between the catalytic converter and resonator pipe... resulting in an exhaust system leak that will preclude passing the Commonwealth of Virginia's  annual vehicle inspection.

also not good if you don't want to die from carbon monoxide exposure...
