Shwedagon Pagoda

After a day of travel yesterday it was time to hit the sites of Yangon. Myanmar or Burma as we tend to call it (we call it Burma after the dominant race of people here - a bit like calling China - Han), has just been released from sanctions following President Obama's visit and the release of Au Sang Su Chi. As a prominent member of the Commonwealth and large ASEAN country it is seeing visits go through the roof. The only capital of south east asia not to succumb to the influx of KFC's and McDonalds, it's a refreshingly different place to visit.
Today we headed to the main Pagodas and found some places to change money. Myanmar has no atm's and will only accept crisp brand new US dollars to change.
Last night we headed to the British Club to taste the expat life at their monthly get together. Very amusing. A small community of english teachers, business men and sailors who drink and party behind the walls and security gates using raffle tickets to buy beer.
