The Dam at Cow Green (1967)

Temperatures continued to rise throughout the day so we only managed a shorter run in the morning, over many stiles to eventually reach the impressive Baldersdale viaduct before returning in a pool of sweat. 

In the afternoon we headed up to the high point of Teesdale, near 600m and walked to the dam of Cow Green reservoir on the infant River Tees. Built under great conservation controversy to supply industries of Teeside, it is a very peaceful place now. We spotted one little Spring Gentian in the grass, waiting to be munched by the grazing sheep. 

Below the dam, the water lazily slides towards the 200m high cascade of Cauldron Snout. AB#2 is on the dam (if you zoom), with Mrs AB and a supping doggo in the river below.
