Phew what a day
Got up early, let the dogs out, feed them, made a coffee back to bed, finished my book. Quick breakfast, leisurely stroll with William, then Millie & I set off down into Cockington. A different route today, heading for the stream first, Millie was in there like a shot, just ahead of her an artist with easel. Whoops! That was close .. Grabbed Millie and got her on the lead then went back and had a little chat & inspect the oil painting that he was creating. Very brave being so exposed to public scrutiny. I love Gunnera manicata and they are looking spectacular around the ponds, big bold lush vibrant green foliage, spiky stems, BIG funky panicles of tiny flowers. LOVE them! It was just us walking through Manscombe wood, what a treat. Sadly at the end of the wood is a property that is let out, & there one of the families had brought with them a very noisy petrol motored kids go kart. What a racket! Walking back through the estate lots of families were enjoying the sunshine, the trees are looking fabulous. Azalea's & ornamental trees full of blossom. It looked a picture.
A quick shop at Lidl's to pick up some scrummy deli bits n bobs, plus some very morish freshly baked olive rolls. I say quick, but you know me, never a dull moment, so a tannoy announcement informs us that Till 5 is opening, so I begin unloading my trolley, then the announcement changed to till 6 by which time I have unloaded onto belt 5, so I begin repacking my trolley when another announcement tells us that till 5 is opening .... so I unpack my trolley once more .. I love shopping ... NOT!
A phone call from hubby telling me that the bicycles had been stolen from the shed on the allotment. I doubt we will ever see them again. He came down for lunch but first we rang the police to report the theft.
Lunch eaten in the garden, bliss. I mentioned that the seed trays in the greenhouse would probably need watering after today's heat, so when he got back he went and watered, lost his footing, tripped and fell breaking a pane of greenhouse glass, cutting his arm, and not able to stop it bleeding. He is so accident prone, you would not believe me if I told you. So he's talking to me & then nothing, I'm calling his name, once, twice ...... John are you there?. By which time I'm getting frantic, thinking he'd passed out. Just about to cut off the call, jump in the car & whizz home, when he comes BACK to the phone. Phew! He did'nt want me to drive home, so he called a mate to come and help bandage his arm. He's just rung now to say he's not feeling 100% so off to bed. Fingers crossed he'll feel better after a good nights sleep.
Gardener's World on now. Gardening is so therapeutic.
Right I'm off to make a coffee before Pilgrimage: The Road To Rome. begins at 9pm.
