Holy island
As it was Good Friday, Mrs P and I decided to visit Lindisfarne, also known as Holy Island. We parked at the beginning of the causeway and walked the last section of a much longer walk (pilgrimage) which traditionally starts from Melrose in the Scottish Borders, though there are other routes that start from further afield in England. This last stretch involves crossing the mudflats which we did by taking our boots and socks off and waded through the sand and mud. We proceeded to spend the day on the island waiting for the tide to turn. It was a very pleasant day wandering around the island where there are numerous good subjects worthy of blipping. We had a slight scare whilst we were enjoying a coffee when Mrs P received a phone call from the Northumberland police warning us that our car was vulnerable where it was parked on account of the water. It transpired that another car had water up to its roof and was a right-off. Ours was not so precarious but the coast guard were kind enough to warn us that we might want to move it. Not easy when we were stranded on the island. Fortunately, it all ended well and the car started without a problem. We were wondering if when we opened the door, we might find a gush of water and fish streaming out!
