Butterless chicken...

...not pigeon pie for dinner tonight!
In fact these beautiful kereru, native to New Zealand are protected and we are particularly favoured here at Lake Tarawera, to have a large population of them in our surrounding native bush.This one, with its mate flopped in and perched in the acer right outside our window just now. Last light of day and a poor zoomed iPhone image, but I rather thought you'd like to see him as he obligingly stayed put for a couple of minutes.
The maximum penalty for killing such protected wildlife is a NZ$100,000 fine and up to a year in jail.
