Roman fish mosaic
When preparing for our holiday we discovered that there is an awful lot for a couple of enthusiastic tourists to see and do in Naples. We have therefore planned our four full days here around a very short 6-item list of 'must sees'.
Our first destination today was the Museo Archeological Nazionale di Napoli. Our main interest was the material that has been brought here over the years as Pompeii and Herculaneum have been excavated. These include paintings, plasterwork, statues, metal objects, glassware, ceramics, jewellery, and - our favourite - mosaics. The example that I have blipped reminds me a bit of my father's paintings.
Several hours later we emerged from the cool of the museum into the afternoon heat and stomped up the road to Starita. We made it there just in time to order late lunchtime pizzas. It was Jon who suggested that we eat here - and what a fabulous recommendation this proved to be!
After lunch we took our time to wander back through the old town to our hotel. We stopped off along the way to peer into churches (interesting) and eat ice cream (delicious).
We now feel qualified to visit Herculaneum tomorrow :-)
Exercise today: walking (18,359 steps).
