Water Ceremony/Ceremonia de Agua
The Aztec Dancers who have dedicated themselves to social justice performed yesterday for a Water Ceremony led by Native Americans on the banks of the Willamette River beneath the St. Johns Bridge. They invited me to come as their "official" pro bono photographer. I am honored and grateful.
The Water Ceremony was led by people who are Water Protectors. Some of them were present at the Standing Rock demonstrations nearly three years ago, and their motto is "Water is Life." They are distressed by the pollution of the Willamette River by corporate interests and the use of our shipping lanes to transport tar sands oil, which is the dirtiest of the petroleum exports from Canada to the USA.
