Miss Ellen Willmott

...is fading...after a long and beautiful summer season.
We're just home from Lake Tarawera and I've ambled around the garden doing a "ward round".
Autumn is definitely advancing and we've had good rain. The lawn looks well saturated , the new grass seed is germinating and the moss is looking emerald and healthy at the base of our eldest oak. We have 2 sentinel cabbage trees ( cordyline) at our gate. They're both multi-trunked and one of these is quite hollow. It's about 10 feet tall and Dr D wondered how fragile it is. I gave it a mighty shove as I collected the mail and it didn't give an inch so I think passing traffic(us) is safe for now.
