Flerkin Around

My Dear Princess & Dear Fellows,

You know, I have to admit, I was not looking forward to the arrival of children at El Parsones Manors. Caro and I have a nice, quiet, relaxing, chilled, mellow, lazy but most of all quiet life carved out for ourselves here and I guard it jealously.

Children. Meanwhile. They are not quiet. I'm not against this. I'm not a meanie Victorian, children-should-be-see-but-not-heard type. I am quite happy for children to be noisy, so long as they are noisy well out of earshot.

Oh all right, I'm a curmudgeon. There, I've said it.

But as it happens, Macca's children are actually lovely, and I got on with them fine. J, the boy, likes animals and was very nice to Jasper. I'm sure he would have been nice to Punky too, if Punky had ever come within arm's length. T, meanwhile, is very much the Older Sister and does her best to keep J in line. I appreciated her efforts but it did lead to some "shut up no you shut up" type discussions between them. However, once they both relaxed and wound in their necks I found them very pleasant company. The thing about children that I forget is that they are full of enthusiasm for everything and they LOVE it when you take the piss out of them.

In the morning, Macca, Caro and T decided to go into town to do shopping and cakes. I figured J would not be into this so offered him the option of staying in pyjamas, eating pizza with me and watching superhero films while lying on the couch. I explained to him that this meant we could drop food all over ourselves and no-one would actually care. Plus, I astounded him with my extensive cinematic knowledge, by which I mean I can name all of the X-Men, so I could tell I made a good impression.

When the three returned home, he seemed disappointed that we were unable to keep watching intellectual movies about superpowers, so I took the two kids out to see "Captain Marvel". This also freed Macca up to get pished on Pinot Gris with Caro. I think they both appreciated this.

It was really nice for me too. T&J LOVED the film and it actually made it more enjoyable for me too. They especially loved the Goose the Cat and laughed and laughed when Samuel L. Jackson waved Goose around, threateningly. Me and J also enjoyed the trailer for Detective Pikachu a lot.

"Is it just me, or does anyone think that trailer made that film look AWESOME?" I asked.
"Me as well! Me as well!" agreed J.
"I'm starting to worry about you," T told me.

So actually I had a very nice day with people nearer my own mental age. I'm rather sorry they will be leaving tomorrow.

S.
