Let' s Go MURPHYS

How to succesfully survive the concert' s erruption ?

There is no universal answer apart from staying at home ;-)
No, I'm just kidding.

Dropkick Murphys were coming into the Glasgow city on Monday evening. Gig was sold out. And how it was? Let' s start from the beginning.

I should easily access o2academy venue around 7:30pm when first band "Grade2' was tryin' to kickstart the night. Actually those three lads were not so bad (traditional punk band set-up means drums, guitar and bass). Played so loud for the support band. Simply I could say as they started with their old-fashioned punk gig they finished with the same old-school punk formula at all. If you like it that' s fine. For me it was just decent louder warm-up band.

Surprise came after. Second band called "The Devil makes three". O2 academy was almost full at that moment and guys just played some kind of folk/rock/celtic music (no, don' t ask me for the definition) while using more conventional combination of instruments (banjo, guitar, traditional bass, drums). So the audience starting to listen them deeply and at the end the band received very warm applause for their gig. They even surprised me by jamming Black Sabbath' s classic Iron Man in the beginning of one of their songs. Thumbs up.

Not sure if it was a good idea to find my place not so far away from the barriers between the stage and the stalls. When I heard first tones of the intro from their album "Signed And Sealed in Blood" I really felt like: "gosh, the madness is going' to be happening". Oh-aye while track "The Boys Are Back" opened the Dropkick' s gig I was 100% sure I'm not safe at all
:-)

Imagine the situation when tens/hundreds fans are creating the traditional moshpit behind you. Yeah, it was me next to the barrier.

No way to take a decent picture at all because it was the pure celtic punk' s energetic set of Dropkick Murphys at all. No, you are not listening some academic musicians while you are attending their concert, haha. You are literally jumping into the joy & madness' transmission between them and their fans. The message for this night was so simple and clear : "Have fun, hands up and enjoy" . Of course we have a lot of fun with those guys from Boston, Massachusetts for the next 90 mins.

You have to chance to hear a lot of their hits like Rose Tattoo, The State of Massachusetts, The Gang' s All Here, Until The Next Time and many many more. Better to say they played usual bag of hits inside the Glasgow' s o2 Academy.

Great to see "those bhoys to be back in Glasgow". And hard to imagine that their leader turned into his 50 this month.

With Dropkick Murphys you will never walk alone, trust me :-D

At the end I was not worrying about 20 mins delayed last train to Edinburgh from Glasgow Queen Street.

Glasgow as it' s best. Again and again and again ;-) Great Monday evening/night.
